The calendar embodies film, TV and gaming highlights who have ‘sleighed’ pop-culture in the past year, welcoming a range of top characters from the likes of Stranger Things, Good Omens, Frozen II and The Joker, to help celebrate Christmas festivities.

‘Tis the season for the agency’s annual labour of love. This year the festive image plays host to the team’s personal highlights from the pop-culture year. However, the guests of honour – Fat Thor, John Wick and the Joker – were chosen by fans at MCM London Comic Con 2019 as a part of Experience12’s ongoing research into fan trends.

This is the third consecutive year that the agency has created a pop-culture advent calendar. 2019’s was designed by US artist, Jeff Carlisle, who follows the footsteps of Olly Hoff (2017) and Paul Shipper (2018) who both helped bring previous calendars to life. This year It includes 38 pop-culture references, made up by 97 characters and Easter eggs hidden within the image.

You can access the image here, to check whether you know all the characters at the party!

Pop Culture Marketing agency Experience12 polled 1,008 fans at the MCM London Comic Con convention, exploring consumer habits related to the most anticipated and favourite game, film and TV releases, alongside preferred ways to consume content.

The survey results also reveal that the growth of subscription services shows no sign of abating, with over half (54%) of attendees saying they’d subscribe to Disney+ following its much anticipated launch in early 2020. Netflix, which worked a 6% growth since October 2018, remains the preferred streaming service amongst Comic Com attendees, with 82% saying they prefer the subscription to any other one in the market.

Other key findings include:

Marvel’s lead slips – When asked Marvel vs. DC, Marvel fans decreased from 83% to 78% in the last five months

Girl power – Since October 2018 female Comic Con attendees have risen by 7%, with women making up 41% of attendees this autumn

Rick and Morty sits on top – The show’s fans have increased at Comic Con by 6% this year, with 24% attendees most anticipating season four

Gaming fans are torn: Only 6% separated the top three most anticipated games (Pokémon: Sword & Shield, The Last of Us II and Cyberpunk 2077)

Chris Whittle, Founder and MD of Experience12, says: “It’s always interesting to get first-hand feedback from the fans at Comic Con London about their preferences, and our insight has proven useful in comparing consumer habits over the years. It’s exciting to see the ever-growing subscription platform market come into its own, especially as Disney+ is soon to hit the scene. Our research proves that fanbases are still increasing across the board, with classics like Pokémon and Star Wars staying strong.”

George is the first person to hold this position at Experience12 after almost four years at the agency, where he has been heavily involved in its growth and the development and implementation of the agency’s positioning.

As Business Director, he will be taking a step back from day-to-day team management following a solid year of hires to the client services team which has left it stronger than ever. George will also maintain oversight of creative, pitches and campaigns, while also continuing to service larger client accounts.

Alongside client responsibilities, his role will focus on overseeing the next big stage of growth for the company. This is largely centred on business development in new sectors, and organic client growth, working with brave clients to produce great creative work and developing the agency’s brand, offering and services.

George Bateman, Business Director at Experience12, says: “I’ve been fortunate enough to see Experience12 go from strength to strength – from a single desk in a shared office, through to our very own HQ on Greek Street. It’s been a challenge and a privilege to be a part of a young, aspirational agency, with a lot of lessons learnt along the way. I’m proud of how far the company has come, the brand, our clients, the work we’ve delivered and, most importantly, the team! It’s now time to look toward the next stage of agency growth – building brand awareness, developing existing client relationships and establishing ourselves in new sectors.”

Chris Whittle, Founder and Managing Director at Experience12, adds: “The impact that George has had on Experience12 since he’s worked with us is significant – from business development to evolving our agency positioning. He’s been a massive part of raising the bar for client-delivery and the team that we’ve become, and I am really looking forward to him stepping up into his role as Business Director and our next stage of growth.”
