Daily Record adds cashback shopping site
Tue 18th Nov 2008
Trinity Mirror’s Scottish tabloid newspaper, the Daily Record, has launched a new online affiliate website, RecordCashback.co.uk, which offers consumers cash back on items bought online.
Consumers who register with the site and then click through and purchase from one of the hundreds of retailers and service providers who have signed up as partners -- including Currys, Play.com, Borders, Asda, Boots, Next and ScottishPower – can get a percentage of what they spend refunded. The maximum on offer is apparently 15 per cent.
People who use the site will also be able to earn more cash by referring friends and by taking part in competitions.
The launch is being supported across all the Daily Record’s platforms including an 8-page supplement in the newspaper and editorial on dailyrecord.co.uk.
Mark Hollinshead, Trinity Mirror managing director, nationals, says: “This is a fantastic service for the Record’s readership as it offers cashback on all online shopping purchases made via the site. Moreover it also offers our advertisers a powerful additional marketing channel to reach our growing audience.”
The site is operated for the Daily Record by V A C Media ( www.vacmedia.co.uk), the biggest operator of consumer loyalty websites in the UK, which currently runs 180 websites.
The latest National Readership Survey, published this week, reveals that for the year from October 2007 to September 2008, while the Trinity Mirror-owned Daily Mirror saw a 6 per cent fall in readers to 3.6 million and its Sunday Mirror fell 6 per cent to four million, readership of the Daily Record was up 3 per cent to 1.17 million.
