Coke’s plastic fantastic Xmas ornaments

Thu 11th Dec 2008
Coca-Cola is offering Coke drinkers the chance to get limited edition exclusive Christmas decorations, all made out of recycled plastic and designed by cult design duo Basso & Brooke and musician and TV personality Alex James.

The four designs are available via the Coke Zone online loyalty scheme, where Coke drinkers can go to redeem points earned by buying Coca-Cola products. Codes on packaging earn different numbers of points depending on the size of the bottle or can, with normal sized bottles worth two points and large bottles three points. The decorations are 10 points each.

The decorations were available to consumers on www.cokezone.co.uk from December 9, 2008. With every one ordered, Coca-Cola is making a donation of £5 to Together, the climate change charity campaign.

The decorations are part of Coke’s ‘See Plastic Differently Campaign,’ an initiative to remind consumers of the benefits of recycling plastic bottles by showing they can have a second life through recycling. Once used, each of the designer recycled plastic ‘trees’ will be recycled again.

The project is being handled by Exposure, which is understood to have won the work after a three way pitch. As well as handling the vitaminwater and Schweppes accounts for TCCC, Exposure previously worked with Coca-Cola on the Matthew Williamson bottle wrap and other collaborations over the last six years.
