Hula Hoops appointed leading experiential agency RPM to create and launch the world’s largest ever Hoopathon in support of Sport Relief.
On Sunday March 21 2010, thousands of people took part in the Guinness World Record attempt, aiming to set a new world record for the most people simultaneously hula hooping at different locations.
The attempts took place at each of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Flagship Mile events around the UK.
For the record to be broken at least 250 people across ten locations had to maintain the hula hooping for two minutes. The record was smashed at the event as 1388 people successfully hula hooped for two minutes across 16 locations including Cardiff, Manchester and at the main event in London.
Hula Hoops is an official partner of Sport Relief 2010, and wanted to launch an event to engage consumers with the brand whilst also raising awareness of the charity. Hula Hoops will donate £1 for every donation of £1 or more, made via text or online, using the specially branded packs of Hula Hoops.
TV personality Ben Fogle and professional hula hooper Marawa from La Clique demonstrated their hooping skills in Leicester Square, London on Friday 29th January to further increase awareness of the event, and Sport Relief cause.
Dom Robertson, managing director at RPM, says: “Hula Hoops is a fun and playful brand, and so we wanted to create and execute a memorable experience that would reflect this personality, whilst involving and educating customers about Sport Relief 2010.”
