RAC Drive-in movies

RAC are launching a series of drive-in movie events, featuring box office smashes and iconic films, will be screened in two stunning locations - Weston Park, outside Birmingham and Alexandra Palace in London.

Open to everyone, tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis and can be purchased at www.rac.co.uk/movies.

To mark the events, RAC is attempting a world record by creating the UK’s biggest ever popcorn box, standing a mighty 16 foot tall. The popcorn box, which can hold over a tonne of popcorn (more than one million popcorn kernels), is making an appearance at Alexandra Palace where film star lookalikes will be handing out popcorn to passers-by.

Chosen for their wide appeal, Dirty Dancing, The Italian Job (1969) and Transformers will be screened at both venues. From Patrick Swayze’s 1957 Chevy, to the iconic Italian Job mini, to the many robot vehicles of Transformers, cars and driving are at the heart of each of the films.

RAC has also launched a Movie Moments competition. Hosted at www.rac.co.uk/movies, people are being invited to re-create their own favourite film scenes to be in with a chance of winning a trip for two to Los Angeles, movie capital of the world. Better still, the winning entry will be proudly pre-viewed at each RAC Drive-in Movie event.

RAC Drive-in Movies will be coming to Weston Park for three nights from 5-7 August and to Alexandra Palace for three nights from 12-14 August. With up to 200 cars permitted at Weston Park and 100 cars at Alexandra Palace.

Tickets are priced at £15 for RAC Members and £30 for non-members, with one ticket admitting one car. The ticket includes two free portions of popcorn and two free drinks per car, and RAC Members will be entitled to additional perks.

Chris Bates, head of marketing, RAC, says: “At RAC, as the driving people, we pride ourselves on understanding today's drivers. We know that congestion, potholes and the cost of fuel can make driving anything but enjoyable at times, so we’re launching RAC Drive-in Movies to help put a little bit of fun back into the driving experience this summer. The events are all about creating unique nights out where everyone can enjoy a truly pleasurable experience from the comfort of their car.”

Terms and Conditions apply for each of the events and can be viewed at www.rac.co.uk/movies.
